At Stoughton Health, we realize your health care experience is not limited to just an outpatient visit or inpatient stay. Every patient is treated with respect regardless of ability to pay. Our Patient Financial Services Department is committed to assist you with your medical bill questions.

If you have insurance or Medicare, the information on your card is vitally important to assist us in filing your claims and making the most of your benefits. Any deductible, co-pay or co-insurance is expected at the time of service. For scheduled visits, financial arrangements should be made in advance of care. The information offered below is provided to further assist you.

Ultimately, any financial responsibility falls to the patient or the patient’s representative (guarantor). Health insurance coverage is a contract between the patient and the insurance company.

Stoughton Health will attempt to provide all information necessary to your insurance company. However, there may be times the insurance company needs additional information from the patient to resolve questions or issues related to a claim. In the event your insurance does not cover all of your expenses, you are responsible for your hospital account.

Stoughton Health is pleased to offer on-line bill payments to conveniently and securely submit payment for your hospital bill using your credit card or via ACH from your checking or savings account.

  • We accept MasterCard, VISA or Discover. Please have your card ready when making a payment.
  • Please be prepared with your account number(s) prior to making a payment. You may pay on up to three accounts at one time.

Certified Application Counselors

Stoughton Health has certified application counselors on site to help patients and
community members understand and benefit from the health insurance marketplace.
We are providing this service because it is consistent with our mission and our
longstanding commitment to ensuring that all individuals have access to available health
insurance coverage.

At Stoughton Health, certified application counselors will be available by appointment

How do I find my account number?

Why do I have more than one account number?

Each time you receive services from the hospital – inpatient or outpatient services (such as physical therapy, medical imaging procedures, urgent care, emergency room care, etc.), a separate account is created. It is possible to have multiple accounts open at the same time.

I used the Oregon Urgent Care Clinic or the Stoughton Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Clinic located in the Stoughton Wellness and Athletic Center (SWAC), why am I receiving a bill from Stoughton Health?

Both of these clinics are owned and operated by Stoughton Health, therefore, your bills are being sent by the Stoughton Health Patient Financial Services Department. Your payments should be made to Stoughton Health.

What if I am unable to pay my bill in full by the due date listed on the statement?

If you are not able to pay the entire amount of your bill at one time, we offer several programs to fit your needs. Stoughton Health offers a six month interest free program where you may make monthly payments over the course of six months until your balance is paid in full. If a longer payment plan is needed, we offer other options with interest charged. Please contact our Patient Financial Services department for further details.

Will Stoughton Health file my hospital claim?

Yes, as a courtesy, we will submit a claim to your insurance. We do not guarantee payment by your insurance company. It is important that you provide accurate and complete insurance information at the time of registration. It is your responsibility to provide any requested information to your insurance company (accident information, claim forms, other health information, or pre-existing condition information).

Will Stoughton Health submit secondary insurance claims?

Yes, we submit secondary claims on your behalf. Secondary claims are only submitted after your primary claims have completed processing.

Can I pay my bill over the phone?

Yes, we accept debit or credit card payments (MasterCard, VISA or Discover) over the phone. Additionally, we are able to make withdrawals from your checking or savings accounts if you provide us your account number and the bank routing number.


Can I receive an itemization of my charges?

Yes, please contact us during business hours and we will be happy to mail you one.

Why did I receive bills from other professionals for the same date of service?

We bill for the facility and professional charges for our urgent care/emergency room physicians and weekend physicians only. Pathologists and Radiologists bill their professional services separately.

My insurance authorized the services, why are you billing me?

We remind our patients that they are ultimately responsible for their bill. The insurance authorization “is not a guarantee of payment.” For questions relating to your insurance coverage, we suggest that you contact your insurance company.

What should I do if I disagree with how much my insurance company has paid on my bill?

If you have questions regarding payment, call your insurance company for an explanation of payment. If the insurance company finds that an error was made, note the information and whom you talked to at the insurance company. Request an anticipated payment date and ask if they need anything to complete processing. If the insurance company feels the bill was paid correctly and you still disagree, find out from the insurance company what you need to do to file an “appeal” with them. Filing an appeal will not guarantee that the insurance company will pay more on your bill, but the claim will be reviewed for reconsideration.
