Geriatric Psychiatry Program Celebrates 25 Years

Nov 15, 2022 | News & Notes

Twenty-five years ago Stoughton Health opened its Geriatric Psychiatry Unit, a program that has helped countless seniors over the decades. The Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Program at Stoughton Health is designed to treat acute mental health disorders in adults age 55 and over. Personalized treatment is provided utilizing a multidisciplinary approach, including active participation in group therapy, individual therapy, and activity therapy. Patients and families receive education on specific disorders, medications, and effective coping strategies.

Recently one of our patient families shared, “We feel so blessed to have received the kind of care for mom that you have given these past weeks.  It has been fairly tumultuous, and through it all, you have been gentle, kind, and compassionate to our mom.  Thank you for all you do and how well you do it.”

The Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Program has also been a partner with our local long-term care facilities such as Skaalen, Nazareth, Azura Memory Care, Kettle Park Senior Living, and many others in Dane County and beyond. When their residents are having mental health issues, many times related to the progression of Alzheimer’s or dementia, Stoughton Health is a trusted partner that can help a resident with a short inpatient stay.

Anyone can make an inquiry call to the Geriatric Psychiatry Program at (608) 873-2242.
