Leona Ehle and her children found joy and connection at Memory Café
With the release of its annual Community Benefits Report, the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) announced Stoughton Health’s astounding contribution of $4,310,722 worth of community benefits and charity care in FY2024. This achievement exemplifies Stoughton Health’s commitment to the well-being and betterment of the greater community. One of the projects highlighted in WHA’s 2025 Community Benefits Report is Stoughton Health’s commitment to creating a dementia-friendly community through education, support, and connection. Recognizing that memory loss affects not only individuals but entire families, Stoughton Health offers free dementia-focused talks, memory screenings, and its monthly Memory Café—providing practical knowledge, early intervention, and a welcoming space for social engagement.
Nearly 100 people attended a presentation by Dr. Zorba Paster, How to Care for Yourself While Caring for Others with Dementia, which offered encouragement and practical tips for caregivers. Events like this affirm that supporting the aging brain means supporting the entire circle of care.
The impact of these programs is best seen through families like Leona Ehle’s, who attended Memory Café for over two years. Her daughter Carolyn shared, “That was my biggest joy, to see the glow in her eyes. The gleaming just kind of brought up the child in her.” For Leona’s family, the café was more than an outing—it was quality time and a sense of belonging.
By offering education, caregiver support, and spaces like the Memory Café, Stoughton Health continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those navigating memory loss. Learn more or register for upcoming events at www.stoughtonhealth.com/events.
